  5. Amiga specific notes for UnZip 5.1, release of February 7, 1994

  9. The Info-Zip UnZip 5.1 package consists of C source code that compiles
  10. on many platforms.  Some systems, such as Amiga, lack a bundled
  11. C language compiler, so we package and distribute supported executables
  12. for those.  This enables users who don't own compilers to have a 
  13. reliable source for obtaining executables directly from the developers.
  14. This cuts down on the occurence of partial or haphazardly built
  15. distributions.

  17. For more information about Info-Zip, and the enclosed utilities,
  18. please consult the README and doc files included in this archive.
  19.  
  20. To install the programs, copy the files, UnZip and FUnZip, to a utility
  21. command directory where you normally place add-on system commands.
  22. This would be a directory normally found in your command path.
  23. Type "path" in a CLI window for a display of which directories are
  24. in your path.  Choose a location which is not likely to be replaced
  25. if AmigaDOS is reinstalled later.

  27. The official compiler for Info-Zip Amiga source is SAS/C
  28. version 6.51.   Any compiler revision from 6.2 and above is supported.
  29. We do not support SAS/C 5.10b (too old) nor DICE (programmer 
  30. dissapeared).

  32. Consult the file, Where, for information on where to obtain source
  33. code if you would like a copy.  It's FREE!  If you have no access to
  34. any of the sources listed therein, send electronic mail to
  35. the address listed below, and be sure to state that you are working
  36. with the Amiga version (we support at least a dozen platforms).

  38. These programs run only as CLI commands, but are compatible with
  39. Directory OPUS, SID, and IconX methods of execution.

  43. Known problem:
  44.  
  45. It was discovered on release day that the latest SAS compiler
  46. revision (6.50 or 6.51) fixes a long-standing timezone bug, with the 
  47. result that the work-around code in UnZip now might extract files with 
  48. the wrong times, off by a certain number of hours depending on which
  49. locale you are in.  This may depend upon whether or not your locale 
  50. utilizes daylight savings time.  If this happens to you, setting the 
  51. TZ environment variable properly may bring the time to within 1 hour 
  52. of the correct time.  IMPORTANT:  This does NOT cause a problem with 
  53. the integrity of the data, but can be annoying if you depend on accurate 
  54. time stamps.

  56. We are currently working on characterizing when and why this problem
  57. occurs, and the next release will be properly accurate.
